Mijas is a white village situated about 8 kms north of Fuengirola.
Despite being swamped with bus loads of tourists for the main part of the year, it has managed to retain its charm. There are narrow cobbled streets and pretty squares with fountains and gardens, cafes, bars, gift and craft shops.
Mijas is famous for its "burro taxis" transport by donkeys to be ridden or pulling small carts.
There are panoramic views over the coast and remnants of the Moorish walls built to protect the town. It has a very long history and there is a small square shaped bullring built in 1900.
At the back of the town on the Alhaurin road is a trail marked out by black metal crosses leading up through the pine-clad hills to the hermitage of El Calvario.
