Jerez has the perfect climate, soil and type of grape that makes it the centre of Spain's sherry and brandy making industry. The bodegas can be visited at certain times (usually closed in August and early September due to the harvest), and the most popular names are Gonzalez Byass, Sandeman and Demecq. Most have a shop attached.
Gonzalez Byass - 10am to 1pm and 5pm to 8pm (except Thursdays), Saturdays 10.30am and 11.30am only and Sundays only at 11.20am.Tel:956 340000.

Quite apart from the bodegas, Jerez has lots to offer and is an acknowledged centre of flamenco. The gypsy quarter of Barrio de Santiago, is a good base from which to reach to the bodegas and other major sites which include the Alcazar and cathedral, the archaeological museum and if you are interested, the Andalucian Centre for Flamenco (CentroAndaluz de Flamenco).
Don't miss the wonderful Horse Fair at the Feriade Mayoin Jerez. This usually takes place around the first week of May –a must for any horse lover. Please check locally.
Laguna De Fuente De Piedra One of Europe's important breeding grounds for the greater flamingo is to be found in this massive saltwater lagoon of Fuente de Piedra just west of Antequera. The best time to visit is between January and June and binoculars are advisable since it is not always possible to get close to the nesting birds. There is a visitor's centre in the village nearby.
Museo de Relojs - The watch museum found at the northern end of town. It is said to house the biggest collection of antique clocks, all working and all chiming on the hour. Open 10am to 2pm Monday to Saturday.
